January 9, 1969 — At least 18 Stanley area youths have been charged with the setting of numerous fires within the past six months and several other warrants are expected to be served in the near future, Page County Sheriff Kenneth Kerkhoff reported Wednesday afternoon.
Eleven men have been served with warrants and seven juvenile petitions have been issued in connection with a months-long investigation of the rash of fires, mostly involving barns, outbuildings and abandoned homes, the sheriff said. The juveniles charged ranged in age from 14 to 19 years.
The sheriff emphasized that investigation of the incidents and others in the Shenandoah area are being continued and that other warrants are imminent.
A number of those charged were arrested Tuesday and Wednesday.
