Alfred Carlton Comer Jr., 92, of Stanley, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2026.

He was born on May 17, 1933, in Shenandoah and was a son of the late Alfred Carlton Comer Sr. and Myrtle Tessie Turner Comer.

Alfred was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1953-1955. In 1979, he founded the Church of the Valley, where he served as pastor for 40 years.

Alfred was a faithful and loyal man of God. He held numerous evangelistic meetings in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and Virginia. He was a great soul-winner, serving throughout the Shenandoah Valley. 

For his love of children, Alfred also established Noah’s Little Ark Day Care Center in Elkton, more than 30 years ago.

On September 24, 1954, he married Anna Mildred “Millie” Painter Comer, who survives.

In addition to his wife of 71 years, Alfred is survived by a brother, Jackie Comer of Dooms, Va. He was preceded in death by his siblings, May, Regatta, Betty, Katie, Ruth Ann, Ray and Bobby.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, at the Church of the Valley.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 20, at the church by Pastor Duane Painter, Pastor Jacob Hensley and Pastor Jim Beber. Burial will be in the Newport Cemetery in Shenandoah.

The family extends special thanks to their wonderful church family and friends for the loving support throughout the years.
