Age 65, Shenandoah, Va.
Ann Marie “Annie” Schupner, 65, beloved wife, devoted mother, grandmother, loving sister, cousin and friend, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on December 28, 2024. A 28-year resident of Virginia, she was born September 11, 1959, in The Bronx, New York to the late Charles Redmond and Margaret Colins Redmond. A graduate of Tappan Zee High School, she married her husband, Ronald Schupner on January 9, 1993.
Annie was known for being an integral part of her community. She was an Instructional Assistant and Mentor to many at Elkton Elementary School and Page County High School, where students lovingly knew her as “Schup.” Active in her community, Annie served as a member of PTO/PTSO for Page County High School, Secretary, Honorary Member of the Shenandoah Rescue Squad, member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Shenandoah, Virginia, and as a Music Booster for Page County and Luray High Schools.
Annie also enjoyed many warm days by the river in the camper she and Ron renovated. They would host many dinners and get togethers with friends and family at their “special place.”
Annie and Ron owned and operated Shenandoah Hardware Store for seven years, going above and beyond for any need in any situation. While owning the store, Annie and Ron established Project Firewood, which provided free firewood for any community member in need.
Those fortunate enough to have known Annie knew she always spoke her mind and you always knew where you stood. Family was the most important thing to her. Her biggest thrill was being Nana to Arianna, Jameson, and Henry.
In addition to her husband Ron, she is survived by her children, Jake Schupner and wife, Lauren of Stanley, Virginia, Charles Schupner and wife, Sasha of Cimora, Virginia, and Zachary Schupner and wife, Lauren of Mount Jackson, Virginia; grandchildren, Arianna, Henry, and Jameson. She is also survived by sisters, Janet Ursone and husband, Lou, Ellen Gooden and husband, Carl, Suzie Byrne and husband, Brian. Also surviving are nieces, Meg McDorman and husband, Robert, Dr. Moe Byrne and husband, Dr. Robert Merrill, Kate Byrne and husband, Ben Truax; great-nephew Gavin Merrill, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
A celebration of life service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 5, 2025, at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton with the Rev. Tarja Stevenson and Pastor Debra Hinton officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home or from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday at the family home.
