STANLEY — The Page County Extension Office is offering an Apple Tree Grafting workshop to be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 15, at the Extension Office, 215 W. Main St. in Stanley. Pre-registration is required and the deadline is Wednesday March 13. To register simply call the Page County Extension Office at 540-778-5794. Space is limited so register early.
Apple tree grafting is one method to preserve older, lesser-known varieties of apple trees that are not readily available for purchase. Apple trees grown from seed are not the same variety as the tree on which the seed developed. Therefore, to produce more trees of a variety, the trees must be budded or grafted onto another apple tree.
Elizabeth Baldwin, Associate Extension Agent, will be discussing apple tree grafting and demonstrating grafting. Workshop cost is $15, which will include five apple rootstocks. Grafting wood will be available from several varieties.
Virginia Cooperative Extension is a partnership of Virginia Tech, Virginia State University, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and local governments.
Anyone with a disability and desire any assistive devices, services or other accommodations to participate in this activity, please contact Elizabeth Baldwin, Page County Extension Office at 540-778-5794/TDD number is (800) 828-1120 during business hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to discuss accommodations 5 days prior to the event.
