STANLEY, Dec. 30 — As of midday Monday, the Page County Sheriff’s Office continues to search for an armed man that has eluded law enforcement since Friday morning.

“This morning at approximately 09:38, Page County deputies responded to a report of a domestic situation between a male and female. While checking the area of where the male subject was last seen, deputies engaged the male on foot, who then brandished a weapon at the deputies,” reads a Dec. 27 statement from the PCSO. “Deputies took a defensive position behind cover and lost sight of the male. No shots were ever fired. The male was positively identified by deputies as Todd Shifflett.”

Todd Aaron Shifflett (pictured above) has outstanding felony warrants in Rockingham County, according to a PCSO statement, and new charges of assault, brandishing, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon for the incident Friday morning. Shifflett was last seen wearing a camo or black sweatshirt, blue jeans, a black hat and is “considered armed and dangerous.”

The search for Shifflett lead to a “Shelter in Place” advisory being issued by the sheriff’s office around 11:15 a.m. on Friday stating that deputies were “responding to an active situation involving a male subject with a firearm in the Deerfield Estates area of Stanley.” Residents were urged to remain indoors, lock all doors and windows, move animals to a safe location, not answer the door, and call 911 if anyone suspicious was spotted.

Within 30 minutes of the advisory, a warning was issued that drones had been dispatched in the area, as well as K-9 units aiding in the search. By 4:25 p.m. on Friday, the Deerfield Estates area was cleared and the shelter in place advisory was lifted, but Shifflett remained at large. A few hours later, the sheriff’s office assured the community there was no immediate danger.

“Todd Shifflett remains wanted,” the PCSO statement issued just after 7 p.m. Friday evening reads. “This is an ongoing investigation, and the Page County Sheriff’s Office is actively pursuing leads. There is no imminent threat to the community, and this situation should not be a cause for panic… We encourage citizens to be vigilant and on the lookout.”

Sheriff Chad Cubbage issued a statement that additional manpower was being authorized and additional patrols would be actively surveilling neighborhoods on Friday night; however, “we do not believe there is an imminent threat to our community.”

Yesterday, Shifflett reappeared and then disappeared again before police arrived along Honeyville Road.

“On Sunday, December 29, at approximately 12:19 p.m., information was received that Todd Shifflet was located in a camper on a property in the 700 block of Honeyville Road, Stanley,” a Dec. 29 PCSO statement reads. “Law enforcement established a perimeter while probable cause was developed to obtain a search warrant. A search warrant was obtained and subsequently executed in a search for Shifflett. A female occupant was located in the camper that stated that Shifflett had been on the property earlier, but had since left. The residence was secured and Shifflett was not located.”

The sheriff’s office issued a second “Shelter in Place” order shortly after 1 p.m. on Sunday for the Honeyville Road area in Stanley, in the area of Deerfield Estates, due to a “police incident.” The order was lifted a short time later.

“I want to assure the citizens of Page County that we are doing everything within our legal authority to track and find Shifflett,” Sheriff Cubbage said in a statement. “I also want to send a very clear message, that just like the information received today, any tip or lead that we receive, will be taken seriously and investigated thoroughly. We will utilize every lawful resource available to us to arrest and bring Shifflett to justice.

“To those who chose to harbor, or aid and abet Shifflett, we will ensure that you face the legal consequences of your actions.”

The sheriff’s office has stated that there will be no further updates on this incident unless something significant develops.

Anyone who knows of Shifflett’s whereabouts, or spots Shifflett, please contact the Page County Sheriff’s Office at 540-743-6571 or call 911 in the event of an emergency.
