Attempted burglary

HISTORY-Lee highway builders

February 17, 1892 — Somewhere in the “wee a.m.” hours of last Sunday night some hungry thief pried open the front door of Mr. J. Martin Buracker’s store at Stanley, this county, and forcing his way in had just reached the money drawer when Mr. B., who sleeps with one ear open above his store room and who had been aroused by the noise of the would-be burglar, started with a light down the stairway leading to the store room.

The thief naturally fearing that Mr. Buracker might have his guns, prudently retired, and still not content with a night of useless effort, made his way to the store room of Mr. Roudabush, nearby, where he also attempted an entrance, but was again frightened off.

We congratulate our sister city that she thus so early in her period of development is aping the customs of large places.
