September 21, 1890 — Mr. Thos. Spitler’s barn, situate on the Hawksbill about six miles south of Luray, including contents, was completely destroyed by fire last Sunday morning about 1 o’clock. The barn was a new one, and this part of the loss falls on Mr. S.’s father, the Rev. Sam’l Spitler, who owned it; but the contents, consisting of about 100 bushels of wheat, several bushels of rye and oats, 16 loads of hay, four horses, a lot of harness, etc., is a heavy loss to young Mr. Spitler, who is just beginning life for himself. The fire is supposed to have been the work of an incendiary. There was no insurance on the barn or the property.
