October 22, 1887 — The fine new bank barn belonging to Mr. J.B. Ruffner, situated on his farm, about three miles northwest of Luray, was destroyed by fire Saturday night about 7 o’clock. There were in the barn at the time about 200 bushels of grain, including wheat, rye and oats, about 20 bushels of clover seed, 28 loads of hay, $100 worth of gear and harness, wheat fan, corn sheller, and stable and barn furniture generally. The loss altogether is estimated at $1,800. No insurance. Mr. Ruffner and family were absent at the time, and while he has no reason to attribute to anyone so heinous a crime, yet he thinks it must have been the act of an incendiary.
