February 12, 1961 — A hard blow to the Eastside Valley was delivered last week when The Stauffer Chemical Company at Bentonville announced it would close its carbon Visulphide plant in the Warren County community about 15 miles north of Luray.
While the plant is now operating it will be closed as soon as materials now on hand have been used. It is understood that new processes have outmoded the operation at the Bentonville plant and that it is doubtful if the building and equipment is adaptable to any other industrial operations.
The Bentonville plant, established in 1944, employs 40 persons.
