Billy Kite (Bill K.) Huffman, 89, a cherished pillar of the Luray community, passed away on February 14, 2024.
Born on August 17, 1934, in Page County, he was the son of Willie Albert Huffman and Eula Kite Huffman, both of whom preceded him in death.
Bill’s life was characterized by dedication and service to his community. After graduating from Luray High School in 1952, he pursued further education, taking special courses at Lord Fairfax Community College. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1957, serving his country with honor for 18 months in Germany, where he was in charge of Message Center Operations for the 125th Trans BN 24 INF Division. His exemplary service earned him several letters of appreciation.
Returning to civilian life, Bill became deeply involved in various civic and professional organizations. He served as the Director of the Luray-Page Chamber of Commerce for four years and was an active member of the Luray Jaycees, where he held numerous leadership roles, including President. Additionally, he was a dedicated member of the VFW since 1960, advocating for veterans’ rights and well-being.
Bill’s commitment extended to service organizations like the Luray Rotary Club, where he held positions as Director, Vice-President, and Club President, contributing to the betterment of his community through various initiatives. He also served on the local board at Lord Fairfax Community College, representing Page County and advocating for accessible education.
Bill worked for the Luray Caverns Corporation for 55 years, retiring in management.
In 1963, Bill married Anne Elizabeth Rothgeb Huffman, his lifelong partner and the love of his life. Together, they built a life filled with love, companionship, and cherished memories.
Bill is survived by his devoted wife Anne; his son, William Edward Huffman; his daughter, Carol Elizabeth Huffman Morris, and her husband, Eric Morris; his sister, Roseline Taylor; and his two grandsons, Jack Morris and Chet Morris, all of whom meant the world to him.
Bill’s legacy is one of unwavering dedication to his family, his work, and his community. His kindness, wisdom, and gentle spirit touched the lives of all who knew him. Though he may no longer walk among us, his memory will endure in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
Services to honor and celebrate Bill’s remarkable life will be held at a later date, allowing family and friends to come together and pay their respects. In the meantime, may we find solace in the cherished memories we shared with Bill, and may he rest in eternal peace.
Additionally, as a charter member of the Saturday Night Supper Club, Bill’s influence and contributions extended to various aspects of community life, fostering camaraderie and friendship among its members. His impact on the Luray community will be remembered and cherished for generations to come.
