February 14, 1991 — A Luray hotel received a bomb threat Thursday night, according to Chief Albert Judd of the Luray Police Department.
Chief Judd reported that the night clerk at The Mimslyn called the sheriff ’s department and said that he received a telephone call from a man stating that a bomb was in the hotel and would go off in 22 minutes. The call came in at 8:56 p.m. and all available officers were dispatched immediately to the scene, Judd noted.
Police evacuated the hotel and tried to locate a K-9 to sniff out the bomb. However, the closest dog was located in Fairfax. After 22 minutes elapsed, police searched all the guest rooms of the hotel, and all service areas, public areas and the basement but found no bomb.
When they found nothing, the officers determined that there was no explosive and that it was safe for the guests and employees to re-enter the hotel, Judd said.
