Freshman scores Luray’s only goal in final minutes

LURAY, April 22 — The Falcons of Central found the back of the net a third time just over halfway through the second period and cruised to a 3-1 Bull Run District win over Luray on Tuesday evening at Bulldog Field.

The visitors didn’t take long to get on the board as senior Jordan Massey put Central up 1-0 just five minutes into the match. The Falcons took three times as many shots on goal in the first period as the Bulldogs, and keep pressure on Luray goalie Jakob Choat. The senior recorded nearly double-digit saves in the first 40 minutes. Central went to the break up 1-0.

Just over 10 minutes into the second half, junior Danny Ordonez Soliz scored Central’s second goal. Sophomore Erick Cabellero Guevara added the third just 10 minutes later. The Falcons had a goal called off about 10 minutes after that due to contact with the goalie.

Despite giving up two goals, Luray seemed more competitive in the second half. Freshman Max Banks hit the Bulldogs’ only goal with 2:50 left in the match.

With the win, Central (2-4-1, 3-5-1) breaks a three-game losing streak and takes firm control of fifth place in the Bull Run District. Next up, the Falcons host the Rams of Strasburg (1-3, 1-6) at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 24. Central will be at Page County High School on Tuesday.

With the loss, Luray (1-2, 1-4) sits in sixth place in the district and next travels to rival Page County (2-2-1, 3-3-1) for a 7 p.m. match on Tuesday, April 29. The Bulldogs defeated Strasburg, 3-0, on the road April 17.
