Camp Roosevelt brought back to life

August 14, 1965 — The site of Camp Roosevelt, in Fort Valley, the first Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp established in the United States in 1933, is destined to become a U.S. Forest Service recreational area development.

A group of interested citizens, newspaper reporters, photographers and U.S. Forest Service officials met at the site Monday of last week. The few remains of the original CCC camp were examined and the layout of the new facility was explained by Forest Service officials.
