Luray Inn

Jan. 7, 1894 — According to advertisement Mr. J. Kemp Barlett Jr., trustee, of the V.L.&I. Co., offered for sale on the 21st of last month all of the remaining realty of the company. 

The bidding on the Cave was especially lively and it was finally knocked down to Mr. Levi Z. Condon, of Baltimore, who represented a Baltimore syndicate said to be composed of himself and Messrs. Lane and Dixon, of Baltimore, and Mr. Green, of Philadelphia, at their bid of $49,100. 

The Inn site, cottage and greenhouse, with 20 acres of land, was bought by the same party at $4,500. 

The restaurant with about four acres of land was knocked off to the Rev. Dr. Wharton of Baltimore, at $1,150. 

Mr. H.V. Hudson was the purchaser at his bid of $55 per acre for the land sold by his father to the V.L&I. Co., being about 26 acres. 

Dr. A.M. Henkel, of Staunton, bought the tract of woodland west of Luray at $60 per acre; also about 68 acres of farming land adjoining his farm at $54 per acre. The Rev. Dr. Wharton also bought the Fox land of 70 acres, near Spring Farm, at $25 per acre. 

Mr. C.S. Grayson bought the N.A. Rust tract of woodland northwest of Luray containing about 20 acres for $550. 

The electric plant was offered but taken down at a bid of $2,000, as was also the Deford Farm on a bid of $6,000. 

The S.H. Strickler tract was also offered but not sold.
