Charles Randall Thompson: A Life Well-Lived

We are heartbroken to share the news of the passing of our beloved father, Charles Randall “Randy” Thompson, who left this world on the morning of Saturday, June 15, 2024. Randy passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love and warmth of his two sons.
Randy was born on December 3, 1943, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was a man of joy, kindness, and boundless love, leading a life full of compassion, generosity, and devotion to his family, friends, and country. He always put his loved ones first and was ever ready to help anyone in need, serving others with humility and without expectation of praise.
Randy dedicated 21 years of his life to serving in the United States Navy. During his service, he was awarded the prestigious Navy and Marine Corps Medal, the highest non-combat decoration for heroism awarded by the United States Department of the Navy to members of the Navy and Marine Corps. This medal is awarded to individuals who distinguish themselves by heroic acts, usually at the risk of their own life, but not involving actual conflict with an enemy. Randy’s receipt of this medal speaks volumes about his bravery, selflessness, and dedication to the lives of others.
Randy had a wide array of passions, including golf, music, photography, travel, science fiction, space exploration, cooking, and baking. He possessed a sharp mind, a great sense of humor, and a deep-seated hope to witness the first man on Mars. His enthusiasm for these interests permeated every aspect of his life.
Randy was a devoted husband to his “Bride” Dottie for 59 wonderful years, caring for her diligently during her final years until she passed away in December 2022. Together, they created a home filled with love, laughter, and precious memories. As a father, he instilled in his sons, Scott and Brad, the values of honesty, kindness, and perseverance.
Randy will be deeply missed for his bright smile, wise advice, and unwavering support. His loss leaves a void that can never be filled, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
He is survived by his children, Scott and his wife Maria, and Brad and his wife LeeLee; his grandchildren, Scottie, Katie, and Bradyn; his step-grandchildren, Michael and Iliana; his half-brother, Barry; his sister-in-law, Linda Weakly; close family friends, the Barb Wilson family; his dog, Daniel; and many other family members and friends.
A private celebration of Randy’s life will be held on June 19th in Greenwood, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Charles Randall Thompson’s memory.
As we bid farewell to an extraordinary man, we find comfort in knowing that his legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will forever remain in our hearts. Rest in peace, Randy. Reunited with your beloved Dottie, you will be dearly missed and forever loved.
