Age 95, Luray, Va.
Charles “Wayne” Richards, 95, of Luray, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the UVA Health Culpeper Medical Center.
Wayne was born on March 11, 1928, in Luray, to the late Edgar “Bud” and Evelyn Cave Richards.
Wayne was a veteran of World War II, serving his country in Germany. After the military, he became a press operator for the Page News and Courier in Luray. He went on to work at the Luray Copy Shop, from which he retired.
In 1954, Wayne was called to the ministry to preach. He served as pastor of three churches during his years in ministry. The last one was at Black Oak Regular Baptist Church in Culpeper County, where he served as pastor for 56 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Donna Dodson (John); five grandchildren, Marc Dodson, Tony Pritt, Bill Pritt, April Pritt, and Rhonda Jarriel; and two step grandchildren, Molly Crumb and Bobby Showalter; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Randall Richards; four sisters, Wanda Crouch, Deloris Roe, Sharon Doe and Katie Evans; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Louise Richards; his second wife, Joyce Showalter Richards; his son, Jeffery Richards; two daughters, Krista Pritt and Teresa Lam; a stepson, Robert Showalter; a sister, Jeanette Gochenour; and two brothers, Edgar Richards Jr. and Paul Richards.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 11, at the Forward For Christ Baptist Church in Luray by Pastor Josh Parlett and Pastor Quentin Parlett. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will be in the Trinity Cemetery.
