LURAY, Aug. 18 — Daniel Waters says that students participating in 4-H and FFA (Future Farmers of America) livestock shows will be at a high this year at the 73rd annual Page Valley Agricultural and Industrial Fair.

“This year, over 100 kids will be participating in the 4H/FFA events,” said Waters, director of the Page Valley Fair.

The hard work of these students will be showcased throughout the week (see schedule below) at events taking place during the day with animal condition and participant showmanship being judged. This upcoming Saturday, Aug. 23 will feature the 4-H/FFA livestock sale at 3 p.m. The animals up for sale will include steer, hogs, goats and lambs.

This year’s headliner will be Christian-based country music artists Ben Fuller and Cade Thompson. Fuller has produced songs like “If I Got Jesus” and “Who I Am.” Thompson makes a similar style of music with songs like “Arms of Jesus” and “Provider.”

While all other grandstand events during the week are free of charge (included with admission), Thursday night’s Christian-based country music show will require additional tickets for the 6:30 p.m concert. Tickets are $25 for grandstand and $35 for track seating. All seating placement is based on first-come, first-served. So plan to show up early for the best seats.

However, the week’s featured musical attraction is not the only live music available at the Page Valley Fair.

“We have a music pavilion that I feel like people don’t know about,” said Waters.

The Pavilion on the fairgrounds will be hosting musical acts all week free of charge, including artists and bands like Josh Davidson and the Dry River band.

This year, the fairgrounds are hosting an antique tractor pull on Monday night at 7 p.m. where all participants register tractors that were manufactured from 1966 or older. There is also a youth tractor pull at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, in which kids ages 4 to 12 pull a weighted sled with a pedal tractor as far as they can manage. Traditional Truck & Tractor Pulls will be held at the grandstand on Tuesday and Wednesday evening.

On Friday night, the Page Valley Fair gets back to its rodeo roots with High Steel Rodeo Production taking over the grandstand arena.

The fair’s final night on Saturday will feature a crowd favorite in the Demolition Derby.

A new event this year is a midway attraction show called The Pirates of the Colombian Caribbean. It’s an aerial highwire thrill show done by Sensational Murcia Productions. Multiple performances will be given Tuesday through Saturday.

Exhibits will be judged, ribbons will be awarded, livestock will be sold, songs will be sung, civic clubs will sell a variety of food, and a whole lot of fun will be had by all — not matter your choice of entertainment. Waters says the six-day event is expected to draw around 1,500 to 2,000 patrons each day to the fairgrounds.

General Admission tickets for adults ages 13 and up cost $10, and $6 for kids ages 6 to 12. Kids under age 6 get into the fair for free.

“The Page Valley Fair strives to be a ‘community showcase,'” said Walters. A successful fair is “a fair where everyone comes to have a great time.”

And maybe smash up some cars too.
