September 24, 1987 — Balloons ascended toward the Luray Singing Tower during a special celebration last Thursday of the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution.
The ceremony sponsored by the John Rhodes Chapter of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, featured the release of 200 red, white and blue balloons, pealing of one of the tower’s bells 200 times and 200 seconds of silence in honor of the historic occasion.
The event coincided with the continuing celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Singing Tower.
