Dakota Lee Eckard, 21, of Shenandoah, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Winchester Medical Center.
Dakota was born December 30, 2002, in Harrisonburg and was the son of Samantha Hammer and Shannon Eckard.
He enjoyed listening to Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars on repeat, flipping through the pages of a book, getting back rubs, and getting rubbed with a paint brush. Dakota loved any and all food and soda, but he was especially fond of drinking Dr. Pepper. He also loved his dogs, Dandelion and Snowball.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Meghan Eckard; paternal grandmother, Bonnie Eckard; special aunt and uncle, Scott and Carolyn Shifflett; uncles, Jeffrey Hammer and Derrick Hammer, as well as Samantha’s companion, Maurice Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Samuel and Judith Hammer, and paternal grandfather, Delmas Eckard.
Friends and family may pay their final respects to Dakota from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
All other services will be private.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to his mother to offset funeral expenses.
