LURAY — The Shenandoah River Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host their annual Fourth of July Children’s Parade at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 4 at Luray’s Inn Lawn Park. Participation is open to children of all ages.
Local children are encouraged to dress in their most patriotic attire and decorate their favorite mode of transportation — a bicycle, tricycle, wagon or scooter — in their best red, white and blue and bring it to Inn Lawn Park (adjacent to the Page Public Library) for a patriotic July 4th display and march around the scenic park. Children may walk the parade as well.
Luray Mayor Jerry Dofflemyer will lead the parade aboard a truck from the Luray Volunteer Fire Department. The Luray Police Department will set up road blocks and direct traffic as needed for the parade through the park.
Following the event, the Town of Luray and the Luray Downtown Initiative will host the “Downtown Get Down” from 4 to 9 p.m. The event includes multiple stages of live music, games, children’s activities and food vendors, with fireworks being launched from the fairgrounds at dusk.
