GLEN ALLEN — As we close the book on summer teams and prepare to focus our attention on fall high school sports… we take this moment to offer a much-belated congratulations to yet another All Star from the Shenandoah Recreation League. Estelle Dean earned Most Valuable Player honors during a single game played at the 2024 Virginia Babe Ruth State 8U Softball Championships in mid-July at RF&P Park in Glen Allen.

“Glenn Allen, who is a team that we have faced for many years, always gives out a MVP to their opponents,” reads a July 25 social media post by the Shenandoah Rec League. “Once the game was over, they presented Estelle [with] their MVP award. Her bat was on fire that day!”

Shenandoah won the game against Glen Allen, 13-1. Among the eight teams in the double-elimination tournament held last month, Shenandoah’s 8U all stars finished just one game away from qualifying for the state championship game.

The Shenandoah Recreation League posted two state champions — the 12U softball all stars and the 12 Major/60 baseball all stars — but neither team was able to make the trip to Florida to participate in this summer’s World Series.
