Why are you running for Luray Council?

Luray is fortunate to have a dedicated group of elected officials, employees, and engaged citizens. Together, our collective efforts have brought our community to a stronger, healthier place than I’ve ever seen in my lifetime. I believe my contributions have positively impacted these efforts, and I am eager to continue serving in this role for another four years.

What makes you the best candidate?

When I first entered public service, I represented the young adults of Luray. Over the years, I’ve navigated many highs and lows, each adding to my knowledge, experience, and more than a few grey hairs along the way. I encourage citizens to look at my track record as a dedicated public servant. In challenging times, I’ve stepped up to help guide our town through adversity. In times of prosperity, I’ve used my business experience to help ensure our resources are well-managed and our future is carefully planned.

What is the most pressing issue facing the Town of Luray?

We must continue investing in our existing infrastructure to maintain Luray’s strong foundation, while also committing to new infrastructure that supports healthy growth in our community. For example, ongoing investments in our water and sewer systems ensure we provide reliable, high-quality service to our citizens and have the capacity to accommodate future growth. Additionally, as more investors bring new businesses to our downtown, the current limitations of streetside and onsite parking will increasingly hinder continued expansion. Addressing this with new infrastructure, like additional parking solutions, will be crucial to sustaining our momentum.

What is one thing that you would like to change or improve?

I’m going to cheat a bit and offer two. First, we need more higher-paying jobs in our community — not just in Luray, but throughout the entire county. The quality of life improvements that come from working where you live are immense. Less time commuting means more time to invest in your family, your community, and yourself, not to mention the significant cost savings. Second, I’m committed to seeing the Yager Spring Greenway extension project come to fruition during my time on the council. While everyone appreciates the Greenway, few realize the hidden gem that is Yager Spring. This project will change that, allowing Luray to showcase one of its most remarkable historical and geological treasures to both residents and visitors alike.

• Briefly describe a decision you have made in a leadership role and tell why you made that decision.

Though I fall short more often than I’d like, I chose long ago to be a servant leader — one who leads by encouraging others, fostering trust, acting selflessly, and cultivating leadership in others. I made this decision because I believe this approach most closely reflects the example set by my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Early voting starts Friday, Sept. 20

  1. What is your plan to improve business parking in Luray? You must have some idea. So what is it. “Additionally, as more investors bring new businesses to our downtown, the current limitations of streetside and onsite parking will increasingly hinder continued expansion. Addressing this with new infrastructure, like additional parking solutions, will be crucial to sustaining our momentum.” My idea is that the former failed bank building on the corner, the one that’s hogging all the parking space, has to be replaced. Luray supports Luray Caverns. They can help pay for a two level parking garage with two habitable floors above. Mirror how the Carillon was financed by Col. T.C Northcott in 1937.
