Age 92, Rileyville, Va.
Durwood Comer, 92, of Rileyville, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
He was born on September 9, 1932, in Shenandoah and was a son of the late Noah F. Comer and Victoria Grimsley Comer.
Durwood worked as a Supervisor in the Painting Department for Shenandoah National Park, retiring with 32 years of service. He was a member of the Page United Methodist Church.
On June 23, 1956, Durwood married Nora Belle Strickler Comer, who survives.
In addition to his wife, Durwood is survived by a son, Glenn Comer and wife Linda of Fishers, IN; a daughter, Terry Lynn Carothers of Flowery Branch, GA; six grandchildren, Jared Comer, Michael Carothers and wife Brittany, Matthew Carothers, Paul Carothers and wife Madison, Jessica Carothers and Conner Carothers; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Pat Carothers; nine brothers, Melvin, Gilbert, Clark, Elby, Wayman, Nelson, Merle, Edwin and Albert Comer; and four sisters, Frances Painter, Elva Huffman, Lorene Good and Dorothy Alger.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 2, at the Bradley Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, at the Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery in Luray by Pastor John Stelzl.
