Elmer Lynwood Vaughan, 94, of Luray, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Winchester Medical Center.

He was born on March 1, 1931, in Luray and was a son of the late Elmer Pete Vaughan and Linda Mae Sours Vaughan.

Elmer was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and retired from Shenandoah National Park as a foreman, with 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Luray and a charter member of the Luray Volunteer Rescue Squad.

On May 25, 1957, he married Mary Anne Burke Vaughan, who survives.

In addition to his wife, Elmer is survived by a son, Timothy Gregory Vaughan of Luray; a brother, Isaac Wayne Vaughn of Winchester; two sisters-in-law, Ann Vaughn and Oahn Vaughn, both of Luray; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Lynwood Vaughan; five brothers, Adrian Leon Vaughn, Aubrey Winfred Vaughn, Julian Eugene Vaughn, Glendon Garfield Vaughn and Theo Allen Vaughn; and two nephews, Johnny Vaughn and Ritchie Vaughn. 

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, at the Bradley Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 22, at St. Mark Lutheran Church by the Rev. R. Nicholas Eichelberger. Burial will be in the Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery, with military honors by the VFW Comer-Jones Post 621 of Luray.
