Ervin Eugene Dovel, 98, of Stanley, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024.
He was born on August 10, 1926, in Page County and was a son of the late Ezra and Beulah Housden Dovel.
Ervin was a life-time member of the Leake’s Chapel Church of the Brethren in Stanley, having served in many capacities. He retired from Avtex Fibers in Front Royal, with 44 years of service.
On July 2, 1949, he married Eva “Louise” Shifflett Dovel, who passed away in 2017.
Ervin is survived by two sons, Jerry O. Dovel Sr. and wife Sylvia G. Dovel, and Dennis R. Dovel and wife Susan P. Dovel; a daughter, Linda D. Quintrell and husband Carl Quintrell III; a son-in-law, John R. Woodward; five brothers, Earl Dovel, Charles Dovel and Bobby Dovel, all of Stanley, and Roger Dovel and Randolph Dovel, both of Shenandoah; a sister, Maxine Viands of Manassas; eight grandchildren, Jerry Dovel II, Matthew Dovel, Elizabeth Reed, Tanya Fulk, Alanda Woodward, Keith Gordon, April Queen and Carla Miles; 20 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice F. Woodward; a daughter-in-law, Wanda R. Dovel; a brother, Roy Dovel; two sisters, G. Kathleen Shomo and D. Louise Maher; and one granddaughter, Melissa Johnson.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 20, at the Leake’s Chapel Church of the Brethren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 21, at the church by Pastor Duane Painter, with a meal to follow.
Pallbearers will include Jerry Dovel II, Matthew Dovel, Matthew Queen, Machen Fulk, Logan Reed and Patrick Reed.
