Age 91, Elkton, Va.
Everett Owlen Mowbray, 91, of Elkton, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his home on October 2, 2025. He was born on October 2, 1934 in Elkton, the eldest son of Owlen and Mattie Mowbray. He grew up in Elkton and on September 17, 1955, he married Shirley Jean Lam of Page County. The celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this past September 17, 2025.
Everett worked initially for Mowbray Excavating, which he, his father, and brother Ralph owned and operated throughout the valley for more that 20 years. Later, he worked for Greenwood at Merck and Company in Elkton as a pipe fitter and machine operator.
He attended the Upper Room Church in Elkton for many years and later in life became a member of the Elkton Pentecostal Church.
A lifelong student of history, he enjoyed sharing many stories of local and Virginia history with his family and friends. He also enjoyed camping, fishing and boating.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; eldest son, Neil; brothers-in-law, Elwood and Allen Lam; sisters-in-law, Barbara Lam and Mary Frances Lam; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael; his brother, Ralph; brother-in-law, Roger Lam and sisters-in-law, Anna Mae Lam and Charlotte Mowbray.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at the Elkton Pentecostal Church.
A Funeral Service will be conducted 1 p.m., Thursday, October 9, 2025 at the church with Pastor Eddie Byers and Pastor Travis Hensley officiating. Burial to follow at Elk Run Cemetery in Elkton.
