MIDDLETOWN — Are you just starting out as a farmer? Or, maybe you’re thinking of embarking on an agricultural venture. If so, you won’t want to miss a free networking event hosted by Virginia Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry Matt Lohr on Thursday, Dec. 12 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Laurel Ridge’s Middletown Campus.

The purpose of the seminar is to provide education on farm financing options and cost share conservation opportunities. Attendees will receive a free lunch. There will be presentations by Horizon Farm Credit, First Bank & Trust, F&M Bank, USDA-Farm Service Agency (FSA), Virginia Soil and Water Conservation districts, Virginia Cooperative Extension and USDA-Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS).

“The number one challenge facing those considering a career in farming is access to capital,” said Secretary Lohr. “We encourage everyone interested in production agriculture to attend this seminar and learn the many options available to them as they consider this fulfilling endeavor.”

Those wishing to attend are asked to register by emailing Josie.Rao@governor.virginia.gov by Tuesday, Dec. 10. The seminar will be in the Corron Community Development Center.
