July 29, 1887 — An accident, resulting in the death of Mr. J.H. Coverstone occurred last Friday on the short line railroad, running from Milnes to the ore banks of the Shenandoah Iron Company.

Mr. C., in company with another brakeman, was riding on the cow-catcher of an engine running about five miles an hour, when about a half mile south of Milnes the cow-catcher in some way was bent under the engine, carrying Mr. C. with it.

The other brakeman jumped from the engine and escaped uninjured. Mr. C. was badly mangled and died almost instantly.

He was about 30 years of age, and was a strong and vigorous young man.
