STANLEY, Nov. 8 — Fire Chief Terry A. Pettit reported that the Stanley Fire Department responded to a house fire at 328 Stoney Run Road in Stoney Run Park about 3 miles southwest of Stanley on Friday morning at 4:55 a.m. Chief Pettit stated that fire was coming about of the back of the home when firefighters arrived.

Angela Spain, along with her granddaughter Brittany McCoy, lived in the home and were awakened by the smell of smoke. Firefighters were able to contain the fire damage to one bedroom, but the rest of the house received some smoke and water damage. Estimated damage is around $50,000.

It appears the fire started in the area of a space heater, according to Chief Pettit. The home is owned by Gwynne Jewell of Luray, and the house was insured — but Spain did not have insurance on the contents.

Six Stanley units and 18 firefighters responded to the blaze. It took about 35 minutes to bring the fire under control. Firefighters remained on the scene for two hours to make sure the fire was out.

Page County EMS responded to the call, but no injuries were reported. The Page County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with traffic control.  The American Red Cross is assisting the family with living arrangements.
