First snow

January 5, 1991 — Although Christmas was not greeted by a gleaming white snowfall as many would have liked, the snow fell two days later, paralyzing Page County for a brief period. Some 4.5 inches of snow topped with sleet and icy rain was reported and the roads were treacherous late last Thursday afternoon as many motorists made their way to the grocery store to prepare for the first winter snow. The snow was the first to fall since last March 20, when 4-7 inches fell in various areas of the county. The Virginia State Police files did not report any accidents for that day, although numerous vehicles skidded on slippery roadways in a rash of minor incidents. Luray police reported one accident involving damages on West Main Street.
