October 7, 1989 — If Betsy Ross were alive today, she would have nothing on Penny Markowitz and Kathy Slye. The two Luray women have been making flags for several months and are ready to show their true colors and plunge full force into their business, “Flags- A-Flutter.” The flags, which range in price from $35 to $275, are made of 100 percent nylon material and are weather resistant and fade proof. Mrs. Markowitz said that she has sold about 30 of the 40 flags that she has made.
