~ Press release provided by U.S. Forest Service
The U.S. Forest Service was scheduled to begin ignitions of a prescribed burn on Friday, February 16, 2024, if weather conditions were appropriate. The ignition-phase was to be concluded in one day, however residents and forest visitors may see and smell smoke from this burn for a few days.
Fire was set on 86-acre Seakford Fields and 319-acre Moody Tract burn units located near Bentonville in Page County. Possible smoke impacts will be seen on Forest Service road 684 and Route 340 and near the Bentonville and Luray communities.
This burn will improve wildlife habitat by restoring open woodlands and grasslands to the forest landscape.
