Frances Ardena Hensley

Frances Ardena Hensley, 84, of Shenandoah, passed away peacefully at her home, on Monday, August 11, 2025. Born August 10, 1941, in Elkton, she was the daughter of the late Otis Garfield and Eunice Eppard Breeden.

A lifelong resident of Elkton, Frances was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, whose life centered around her family. Frances was a dedicated homemaker and worked alongside her husband on the farm they proudly owned. She found joy in hosting family gatherings, always preparing meals that brought everyone together. She had a deep love for hymns and attending hymn sings. She also enjoyed collecting dishes.

On June 17, 1957, she married Sherwood Lee Hensley. Together, they celebrated 68 years of marriage this past June.

Frances was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth Ray Hensley and David Lee Hensley; a grandson, Cody Shifflett; a son-in-law, Mike Shifflett; a brother, Otis Franklin Breeden, and sisters, Patty May and Phyllis Breeden.

She is survived by her loving husband, Sherwood Hensley; two daughters, Joyce Shifflett and husband, Roscoe of Luray, and Debbie Shifflett of Elkton; seven grandchildren, Megan Miller and husband, Christian, of Shenandoah, Dillon Shifflett and wife, Rebekah of Elkton, Jeremy Shifflett and wife, Megan of Grottoes, Matthew Shifflett and wife, Amber of Elkton, Jacob Shifflett of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Michael Hensley and fiancée, Jessy Lyles of Shenandoah, and Stephanie Southers and husband, Brian of Shenandoah; 15 great-grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren; a sister Geniva Lam; three brothers, Roger Breeden and wife, Reba, Randal Breeden and wife, Sandra, and Tommy Breeden and wife, Becky all of Elkton.

Frances will be remembered for her kind heart, unwavering love for her family, and the warmth she brought to everyone who knew her. Her legacy of love and togetherness will live on through all who were blessed to be part of her life.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, August 15, 2025, at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton, with Pastor Carter Dean officiating. Interment will follow at Elk Run Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
