Age 81, Luray, Va.
Peacefully, Freddie Magruder Jenkins, 81, of Luray, entered his eternal rest on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Mountain View Nursing Home in Aroda.
He was born on December 12, 1942, to the late Fred and Ethel Howell Jenkins in Luray.
On February 17, 1973, he married Theda Gochenour, who survives. His daughter, Kelly Jenkins (Jim), of Luray, also survives.
Freddie was one of 12 children. He is survived by four sisters: Mary Anne Kline, Bonnie (Dave) Behrendt, and Deborah Saunders, of Culpeper, and Marjorie Marston, of Luray; and five brothers: Russell Jenkins, of Luray, Wayne, Lindsay (Connie), and Sidney (Evelyn) Jenkins, all of Culpeper, and Doug Jenkins, of Chantilly. Two siblings preceded him in death: Garfield and Ralph Jenkins.
He was a skilled tradesman, working for Adelphia Cable for years, laying the framework for the fiber optic network in Front Royal, and as an electrician for the Town of Front Royal. A proud Marine, Freddie valued his service to his country and those with whom he served. Freddie loved NASCAR and race cars, and actually raced two of his brothers at Charlotte Motor Speedway. An avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener, he loved the outdoors and often shared this love with family and friends in fresh vegetables and/or fish and venison.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at the Clore-English Funeral Home in Culpeper from 11 a.m. to noon. A service to celebrate Freddie’s life will immediately follow at the funeral home, with interment at Culpeper National Cemetery, 501 E. Chandler St., Culpeper.
