Age 75, Stanley, Va.
Gene Evans Matthews, 75, of Stanley, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025, at Page Memorial Hospital in Luray.
He was born on July 20, 1949, in Greenville, NC, and was a son of the late Jean Evans Matthews.
Gene is survived by a son, Charles Matthews and wife Nichole of Stanley; a daughter, Sabrina Matthews-Burker and husband Clyde of Luray; and six grandchildren, Evan Matthews, Kinsley Burker, Kennedy Burker and Bryce Burker, all of Luray, and Joshua Seamans and Nat Cullen, both of Atlanta, GA. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Matthews; and a sister, Sandra Bowman.
Gene was an avid animal lover and would appreciate any donations to the Page County Animal Shelter, which he worked closely with during his 30-plus years as a dog groomer in the Valley. To benefit the shelter, contributions may be made to the Page County SPCA, P.O. Box 62, Luray, VA 22835.
