LURAY, May 31 — Luray residents John Graves and Stephanie Lillard were among a long list of statewide committee appointments made by Governor Glenn Youngkin at the end of May. The two were appointed to the state Cave Board, along with Steve Ahn of Damascus, a science teacher in Washington County Schools.

Graves serves as the president of the Luray Caverns Corp., while Lillard serves as a member of Luray Council and current candidate for Mayor of Luray this fall. Lillard is employed by People Incorporated of Virginia as the Director of Community Economic Development.

The Cave Board serves as an advisory group to any requesting state agency on matters relating to caves and karst topography. Among their duties are maintaining an inventory of publicly owned caves in Virginia; provide cave management expertise and service to requesting public agencies and cave owner; maintain a current list of all significant caves in Virginia and report any real and present danger to such caves; and protect the rare, unique and irreplaceable minerals and archaeological resources found in caves.

Governor Youngkin announced these appointments on May 31. Appointees do not receive compensation, but can be reimbursed for all reasonable and necessary expenses incurred in the performance of their duties.

“I’m proud to appoint these dedicated individuals,” Governor Glenn Youngkin stated in a press release. “Their work will move our Commonwealth into the future and help create a best-in-class government.”
