November 8, 1990 — A two-month-old house in the Catherine Furnace area was one of a string of fires Halloween night.
According to Special Agent John Thomas of the Virginia State Police, a two-story frame house with pine board siding was destroyed on Va. 684, near Page County High School. The fire rekindled two times. During the initial blaze, the damage was limited to the first floor, Thomas stated. The second and third fires completely destroyed the home.
An unoccupied house belonging to Naked Creek Baptist Church also was a victim of fire late Halloween night. The house was set ablaze in the living room of the 1-1/2 story wood frame dwelling. There was no electricity in the house and the fire is under investigation.
A barn fire in Weaver Hollow, which occurred shortly after midnight, Nov. 1, also was apparently set.
