Age 85, Luray, Va.
Helen F. “Tootie” Waters, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and special lady to many, of Luray, went to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully surrounded by family members on Friday, August 2, 2024.
She was born on March 14, 1939, in New Market. She was the daughter of the late Clarence Jefferson Cline and Julia Strawderman Cline Gentry.
Helen was a graduate of Broadway High School. She was an active member of the Mount Carmel Regular Baptist Church in Luray. She worked in the bus ministry, Junior Church, was a leader in the AWANA ministry, and was later involved as a dietician at Mount Carmel Christian Academy.
After retiring from Wrangler, Helen became a well-known seamstress in the community.
On December 24, 1958, she married the love of her life, E. Leroy Waters. They celebrated 65 years together.
Besides her husband, she is survived by daughter Vickie Cullers (Kent) of Broadway; son Ervin Waters Jr. of Front Royal; daughter Melissa Sabau (Peter) of Luray; five grandchildren, Marketia Palmer (Ashley), Christina Moyers (Kevin), Sarah Sabau, Jamie Waters, and Zachary Sabau (Chelsea); and four great-grandchildren, Bristol and Gage Moyers, Blake Palmer, and Lakelyn Biller. In addition, special family that held a special place in her heart, Jackie, Kimberlin, Kayla and Cheyanne Stewart. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews that were all very special to her.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jeffery L. Waters.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, at the Mount Carmel Regular Baptist Church by Pastor Mike Nichols and Pastor Heath Kahlbau, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in the Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery in Luray.
In lieu of flowers, monetary contributions can be made to the Mount Carmel Regular Baptist Church or to the Mount Carmel Christian Academy in her memory.
