Hugo hits

Shenandoah river

October 3, 1989 — Tropical storm-force winds from the remnants of Hurricane Hugo downed trees and power lines in Page County, but the area was spared any major damage from the storm, which slammed into the South Carolina coast Friday morning and roared into the Ohio Valley during the day. Schools in Page County, as well as most other jurisdictions throughout the valley, were closed by 7 a.m. as weather reports still indicated that heavy rain, high winds and flash flooding were possible. While the wind caused problems, gusting as high as 60 miles per hour, heavy rain and flooding did not materialize.
