October 7, 1965 — A five-man Circuit Court jury on Monday of this week returned a verdict of guilty against Rolfe M. Leedy of Luray, on two counts of illegally selling alcoholic beverages.
The jury deliberated about two hours before returning the verdict which also fixed his punishment at 30 days in jail and $250 fine on each count. Defense attorneys Roby Janney and I.R. Dovel Sr. immediately moved for a new trial.
Judge Hamilton Haas set Oct. 15 as the date to hear argument of counsel on the motion.
Chief witness for the prosecution was Carroll Buracker, a Harrisonburg policeman, who testified he bought one pint of vodka from Leedy on April 10 and another on April 24.
State ABC agents also testified they found nine bottles of beer and 44 bottles of whiskey at Leedy’s home during a search on April 24.
