LURAY, Nov. 7 — Four of the five contested county races on the Page ballot came down to small margins, with 9,203 ballots cast and a voter turnout of 53.4 percent. All four contested county incumbents will return to office, while the Shenandoah Council will see a new face by a mere 49 votes.

Grayson Markowitz will be sworn-in for a second, eight-year term in January as clerk of the circuit court after winning a tight four-way race by a mere 14 votes. Former clerk staffer Kim Bailey came in a close second, followed by fellow independent Stephanie Breeden and Republican nominee Shirron Ballard. Here are the unofficial results for the clerk of the court race:

  • 2,433 — Grayson Markowitz, 27.9%
  • 2,419 — Kim Bailey, 27.8%
  • 2,030 — Stephanie Breeden, 23.3%
  • 1,814 — Shirron Ballard, 20.8%

Chad Cubbage will remain the Sheriff of Page County for a third, four-year term after defeating independent challenger Aaron Cubbage, his first cousin who serves as a captain in the Stanley Police Department. The current sheriff held his post by 351 votes, among nearly 9,000 ballots cast in the race. That represents the sheriff’s smallest margin of victory in his last three bids for office — winning by 687 votes in a three-way race in 2015, and by 531 votes in a three-way race in 2019. Here are Tuesday’s unofficial results:

  • 4,592 — Chad Cubbage, 51.8%
  • 4,241 — Aaron Cubbage, 47.9%

Becky Smith won re-election to a third term by a 3-to-1 margin over indepedent challenger Thomas Bauserman. Here are the unofficial results:

  • 5,526 — Becky Smith, 64.6%
  • 3,016 — Thomas Bauserman, 35.3%

Allen Louderback retained his seat in District 2 on the Page County Board of Supervisors for a second, four-year term by 129 votes over independent challenger and Luray Downtown Initiative chair Paula Kibler. Here are the unofficial results:

  • 948 — Allen Louderback, 53.6%
  • 819 — Paula Kibler, 46.3%

Chris Reisinger earned a spot on the Shenandoah Council by 49 votes over challenger Brenda Frazier Haggett. The special election will fill the unexpired term of Russ Comer, who stepped down from the council this summer. Haggett barely missed a council seat in last fall’s election, as she fell only 24 votes behind incumbent Lynn Fox in a four-way race for three seats. Here are Tuesday’s unofficial results:

  • 395 — Chris Reisinger, 52.5%
  • 346 — Brenda Frazier Haggett, 46%

Commonwealth Attorney Bryan Cave and Treasurer Penny Gray were both unopposed and will return to their constitutional offices for another four-year term. The board of supervisors will add Ryan Cubbage in District 3 (unopposed), who will replace Mark Stroupe; and Isaac Smelser in District 4 (unopposed), who will replace vice chair Larry Foltz.

The Page County School Board will keep two and add two — all unopposed on Tuesday’s ballot — as Taylor Alger (Dist. 1) and Duane Painter (Dist. 4) remain on the board, and Michael Overfelt (Dist. 2) and Renee Bryant (Dist. 3) will join them as new members, replacing Rolf Gubler and Dr. Amy Painter, respectively.

Jimmy Burke and Charles Newton were unopposed for the two seats for Page County on the Shenandoah Valley Soil and Water District board.

There are 17,244 registered voters, according to the Virginia Department of Elections.
