Inmate had pre-existing condition and had just returned from hospital

LURAY, Jan. 10 — The Page County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement on Monday about 11 a.m. noting that the death of an inmate at Page County Jail on Friday was not suspicious in nature.
“On Friday, January 10, 2025, at approximately 11:33 [a.m.], an inmate at the Page County Jail suffered a medical emergency in the jail. The inmate had just previously been evaluated, treated, and released from a medical facility for underlying health problems,” the PCSO statement reads.
The inmate hadn’t been feeling well Friday morning and was taken to Page Memorial Hospital by deputies for treatment of pre-existing conditions, according to a PCSO spokesperson.
“Upon return to the jail, the inmate collapsed and went unresponsive. Deputies immediately began life-saving measures [including CPR] and contacted EMS. Page County EMS responded and continued life-saving measures. Unfortunately, the inmate did not survive,” the PCSO statement continues.
The sheriff’s office withheld any statements until hearing from the Medical Examiner’s office.
“Per Department of Corrections protocols, an in-custody death is taken under jurisdiction of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The body was transported to the OCME in Manassas for an autopsy,” the PCSO statement states.
“No additional information will be released at this time,” the PCSO statement concludes. “Our sympathies and prayers are with the family and friends.”
The sheriff’s office did not release the name of the deceased inmate.
