James Paul Alger, 84, of Rileyville, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2026.
He was born on January 2, 1942, in Rileyville and was a son of the late Virgil Sylvester Alger and Ruby Irene Alger.
His wife, Donna Smith Alger, preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his companion, Bonnie Good; a daughter, Stephanie Alger; a grandson, Donald Kerns III; one great-grandson, Kayden Collins; a stepdaughter, Ada Kerns; two sisters, Nora Hockman and Ruth Lentz; and a brother, Virgil Alger Jr.
James is survived by two daughters, Katrenia “Tina” Hatchett of Timberville, and Renee Trent and husband Tony of Arkansas; a brother, Shirley Alger and wife Ann; three sisters, Patricia McCauley and husband Roger, Carolyn Sheffield and husband Jim, and Wanda Carney and husband George; two stepsons, Timmy Good and wife DeeDee, and Tony Good; 14 grandchildren, Amanda Kerns and husband Andy, Jose Garcia and wife Danielle, Sarah Price and husband Reggie, DonahVyn Smith, Olivia Smith, Savannah Hall and husband Adam, Brandon Kerns and wife Hailey, Megan Foley and husband Rob, Cristina Kerns, Aaron Good, Andrew Good and wife Sable, Christen Snyder and husband Jonathan, Ryan Roach and wife Olivia, and Alyssa Roach and fiancé Scott Welty; 13 great-grandchildren, Shyann Lang and husband John, A.J. Kerns, Daven Kerns, Camren Collins, Riley Price, Wesley Kerns, Isaac Foley, Noah Foley, Jeremiah Garcia, Grayson Garcia, Camden Garcia, Easton Garcia, and Olivia Snyder; one great-great-grandchild, Evelyn Lang; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at a later date.
