Age 89, Shenandoah, Va.
Jean McAlister, 89, of Shenandoah, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2024 at her home. She was born February 21, 1935 in Page County, Virginia and was the daughter of the late David Ernest and Mary Gertrude Henderson McAlister.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, David Leonard McAlister, Melvin Earl McAlister, Huey B. McAlister Sr. and a sister, Elizabeth G. Hensley.
Jean spent her lifetime loving others. She never met a stranger. One thing you may have never known about our mother, is her love for poetry. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She survived by daughters, Pattie Rae Stanley of Shenandoah, Martha Ellen Holmes and husband, Donald of Texas, Michelle Williams and husband, Danny of Shenandoah; sons, Kenneth Scott Breeden of Luray, James Warren McAlister of Shenandoah, Lewis Dennis of Luray; 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at Shenandoah Assembly of God in Shenandoah, Virginia with Pastor Carter Dean officiating. Burial to follow at Mt. Lebanon Church Cemetery in Shenandoah.
Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Shenandoah Assembly of God in Shenandoah, Virginia.
Although she loved her flowers dearly, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shenandoah Fire Department, 201 Pennsylvania Ave, Shenandoah, VA 22849.
Arrangements are being handled by the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton, Va.
