Captain promoted to Chief following Dean’s retirement

STANLEY, March 11 — After interviewing three candidates and going into closed session on Wednesday night, the Stanley Council voted, 3-2, to promote Captain Rebecca Jenkins to become the first female police chief in Page County. Chief Jenkins takes over for Ryan “Beaver” Dean, who held the post for a decade and retired at the end of February.

Councilman Joseph Mauck made the motion in favor of Jenkins, which was seconded by Councilman Doug Purdham and supported by Vice Mayor Bruce Stoneberger. Council members Jeremiah Knight and Robin Caracofe voted against the motion, favoring Officer Chris Stoneberger, who also applied for the position. The third applicant hailed from Gloucester County, Virignia.

Chief Jenkins, who held the longest tenue with the Stanley Police Department at five years, according to Town Manager Terry Pettit, will begin her new role immediately at an annual salary of “about $70,000.”
