Jennings Wilson “Smitty” Smith, 94, of Elkton, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026 at home. Mr. Smith was born on June 11, 1931 in Page County near Elkton, and was the son of the late Connie Lee and Lottie Blose Smith. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Al Smith, Elmer Smith, Vernon Smith, Austin Smith, Charles Smith, James Smith, Wilda Meadows, Anna Meadows, Leila Frances “Sissy” Smith; a son-in-law, Keith “Gator” Dean. He was the last surviving member of his family.

Mr. Smith grew up on the family farm on Naked Creek and was a member of the Furnace Church. He spent many days working on the family farm, cutting wood in the mountains with his brothers. He always had a big garden and enjoyed visiting family, spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and trips to Pigeon Forge and Memphis Tennessee. He always said he graduated from “Fox Mountain University’. He served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War, stationed in Germany for 18 months. He retired from Riddleberger Brothers after 39 years of service.

On June 28, 1958, he married Mary Edna “Suzy” Lam Smith, who survives. Also surviving are daughters, Sherri D. Dean and fiancé, Johnny McCartney, Shelia D. Yarbro and husband, Mark, Danielle S. Morris; eight grandchildren, Tara Smith and Will, Brittany Wampler and Alan, Spencer Dean and Chris, Tees Richards and Kinsey, Amber Roig and Donald, Felicia Tucker and Daniel, Colby Jennings Morris, Kendall Morris; 14 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Sidney “Butch” Morris Jr.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday April 2, 2026 at Elk Run Cemetery in Elkton with Pastor B.J. Smith officiating.

Mr. Smith is at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton where family and friends may call. Family and friends may also call at the Smith home at any time.
