Johnie Franklin Housden, 84, of Stanley, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2024, at Blue Ridge Hospice in Winchester.
He was born on January 16, 1940, in Luray and was a son of the late Lloyd Housden and Neva Sours Housden.
Johnie was a well-known and respected Page County resident. He was a lifelong farmer, and an avid hunter and fisherman.
As a member of the Stanley Sandlot Baseball team, he was recognized at the Baseball Hall of Fame in July 2016. He was a former member of the Stanley Volunteer Fire Department and had also served as fire chief.
Many years ago, Johnie owned and operated Housden’s Grocery in Stanley. He previously served as president of the Virginia Farm Bureau.
His wife, Glenna Mae Chrisman Housden, died on July 7, 2023.
Johnie is survived by two sons, Christopher Housden and wife Donna of Luray, and Steven Housden and wife Terry of Shenandoah; a sister, Deborah Owens of Luray; and two grandchildren, Christopher Housden Jr. of Luray, and Britney Housden of Shenandoah.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Ethel Hilliard, Jenny Dovel, Gloria Short and Judith Housden; and four brothers, Teddy Housden, Cole Housden, Lawrence Housden and Garland Housden.
The family will receive friends from noon to 4 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, at the Bradley Funeral Home.
