Joyce Billie “Momma Joyce” Graney, 88, of Shenandoah, Virginia, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2025, at her home. She was born April 4, 1936 in Washington, D.C. and was the daughter of the late John Lester Waters and Florence Irene Coppage.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Overton Graney; a daughter, Christina Turner, and two brothers, John L. Waters, Jr. and Willard “Woody” Waters; son-in-law, Troy Young and a daughter-in-law, Judy Hensley.
Momma Joyce was raised in the District of Columbia and moved along with her husband, to Page County when their children were young. Some of her favorite pastimes were singing Karaoke, playing Bingo, and many crafting activities. She will be remembered as a loving homemaker and matriarch to many.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph L. King, III and wife, Pattie, Frank T. Graney and companion, Kay Lam; five daughters, Carol Newton and companion, Carlton Comer, Wanda Graney, Harley “Glenda” Lawson and husband, Jory, Linda Kite, Joyce Young; 18 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren, and many extended family members.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton with Chaplain Stephen Mathis officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Friends may also visit the family home at any time.
The family would like to thank her special granddaughter, Stephanie McCarty, for the care and love she provided while living with mom. Also, many thanks to grandson, Jeffrey Kite for his support.
