Age 96, Shenandaoh, Va.
Joyce Gail Smith Warren, 96, of Shenandoah, VA passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center in Harrisonburg after a hard-fought battle with dementia.
She was born on June 28, 1929 in Shenandoah, VA to the late Charles Russell Smith and Dorothy Marie Comer Smith. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, June Gochenour, Billie Lilliard, Margaret Cambell and Dorothy “Sue” Elswick.
Joyce was a member of Shenandoah Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher. She also attended Shenandoah Pentecostal Church. Joyce was a devoted Christian and even once she was at the nursing home, she led others to Christ and would often sing hymns with the other residents.
She was a fantastic cook and loved to spend time tending to her flowers and garden. She also had a knack for crafting and sewing which led her to join the Shenandoah Craft Club. For 35 years, she was chairman/chief of the Shenandoah Democratic 501 voting district. Joyce also volunteered her time at Page One in Shenandoah, VA.
On February 1, 1951 she married John Dudley Warren, Sr. and after 71 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on August 8, 2022.
Surviving family members include her daughter, Sharon K. Warren White and husband, Dave; a grandson, Gavin M. Warren and wife, Deseray; a sister, Shirley Dearing and a son, John Warren, Jr.
Joyce’s family would like to extend a special thank you to nurse Bree at Harrisonburg Health and Rehab and Sentara Hospice nurses Christy and Kimberly.
In keeping with Joyce’s wishes, all services are private.
