Kay Frances Painter peacefully met her Lord and Savior, Tuesday, July 8, 2025, surrounded by her family at her home in Luray, Va.
Kay, daughter of Earl and Florine Painter, was born in Stanley, Va., on November 16, 1949.
On June 7, 1969, Kay married Mark Twain Jewell. Kay and Mark shared 36 wonderful years of marriage together, until Mark’s sudden passing on December 21, 2005. Together, Kay and Mark had a son, Anthony Jewell, who they loved and adored. Kay later remarried Pastor Frank Painter on May 29, 2012. Kay and Frank found love and companionship with each other until his passing on September 13, 2021. One of Kay’s greatest joys was her family, whom she loved spending time with and supporting.
As a young woman, Kay became a business owner, opening her own salon – Kay’s Hair Gallery in Luray. Her career as a hair stylist spanned more than four decades. Kay loved her job and her clients. Her relationships with her customers became lasting friendships that she cherished deeply.
Kay was a member of Antioch Independent Bible Church. She was loved and will be deeply missed by her church family. Whenever given the opportunity, Kay would gladly testify and give thanks for her salvation and God’s goodness to her. She enjoyed reading her Bible, and she had read it through many times.
Kay leaves behind many loved ones and friends, but most of all a legacy pleasing to Christ. She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, devotion to Anthony, love for family, determined work ethic and kindness to others.
Kay is survived by her children, Anthony Jewell, Beth Ancell (Buck), April Guzy (Keith), Rebecca Good (Lefton), and Karen Rhinehart; 12 grandchildren, Bryce Ancell, Olivia Good, Kadence Rhinehart, Mercedes Guzy, Bailey Ancell, Lauren Good, Braden Ancell, Tanner Guzy, Alia Rhinehart, Landon Good, Trey Guzy and Ava Rhinehart; siblings that loved her dearly, brothers Nelson Painter (Arletta) and Allen Painter (Sandra), and sister Christine Shenk (Maurice); numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved pets, Bear and Sambo.
Kay was preceded in death by husbands Mark Jewell and Frank Painter; a brother, Eldon Painter; and three sisters, Geneva Mae Alger, Maxine Painter and Wilma Painter.
The family will receive friends at Antioch Independent Bible Church on Friday, July 11, from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, at Antioch Independent Bible Church, 319 S. Court St., Luray, VA, with Pastor Alan Jones officiating. Burial will be at Newport Cemetery, Shenandoah, VA.
Memorial contributions may be made to Antioch Independent Bible Church in her memory.
